Privacy Policy

Your choice: usage analytics is optional and off by default. The app has no account or advertising. Your profile details, favourites, Activity and journal reflections stay in the app's local storage. If you allow analytics, broad usage events are sent separately to Firebase, along with an installation identifier and technical information. Depending on your iOS backup settings, Apple may include local app data in a device backup.

Who this policy is for

This policy explains how Tuning In Community Interest Company ("Tuning In", "we", "us" or "our") handles information in the Give Yourself a Moment mobile app. We are registered in England and Wales under company number 15139827. Information you can add

You may choose to add a name, a personal intention, favourites and private journal reflections. These saved records are stored locally by the app. They are not uploaded to our servers, used to identify you, sold or shared with other users. Choosing to share usage analytics does not upload these records. On iOS, Apple may include local app data in a device backup depending on your device and iCloud backup settings; we do not receive or control that backup.

Listening history and preferences

Recent practices, practice Activity, favourites, playback preferences, appearance settings and your analytics choice are stored locally so the app can remember your choices. Android cloud backup is disabled for this app. The app does not provide cloud sync. Removing the app removes its local copy, although restoring an iOS device backup may restore backed-up app data.

Online practices and audio

The app connects to Google Firebase services, including Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage, to retrieve the practice catalogue and stream audio. Those services may process technical information such as the app identifier, device and operating-system information, network information and service diagnostics to deliver content, maintain security and investigate reliability problems. We do not send your profile, journal or favourites with those requests. These connections are needed to provide online content whether or not you allow optional usage analytics.

Optional usage analytics

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand whether people return to the app and use its features. Analytics is off by default. After your first completed practice, the app may invite you to share usage analytics with the choices Allow and No thanks. Choosing Allow turns it on; choosing No thanks leaves it off. Your choice does not restrict the app's features. You can also turn Share usage analytics on or off in Settings.

When you allow analytics, the app sends broad events about opening the app, opening a pool, starting or completing a practice, adding a Favourite and visiting Settings. These events may include one of the fixed pool names (Calm, Focus, Energy, Rest, Sleep or Create) or a broad practice-duration category. We do not include practice titles or IDs, audio links, names, email addresses, profile details, Reflection text, health information or other personal text in these events. Your saved local history and the practice you completed before choosing Allow are not uploaded afterwards.

Firebase also assigns a generated identifier to this installation of the app and collects app and device information, automatic usage events and session information. It may derive approximate location from your network connection. We do not request precise location for analytics. This information is not completely anonymous: the installation identifier can connect usage from the same app installation over time. We do not attach your name, profile or an account ID to it. Analytics is used to improve the app, not to assess your health or create a personal wellbeing profile. We disable advertising identifier collection and advertising personalisation in this integration. We do not use these events for advertising, sell them or use them to track you across other companies' apps and websites.

You can withdraw your choice at any time by switching off Share usage analytics in Settings. This stops future analytics collection and asks Firebase to clear pending analytics data and its analytics identifier held on this device. It does not delete data already received by Google. Deleting local Activity, Favourites or Reflections also does not delete previously sent analytics. Google processes and retains received data under the applicable Analytics settings and policies; you can contact us using the address below about privacy or deletion requests.

Optional app feedback

The app may occasionally invite you to answer one short question about the app after you return Home. This is separate from your private Reflection. To avoid asking too often, the app stores a small local count of successful Reflection saves, the date an invitation was last shown and the next question position. This cadence information contains none of your written Reflection. If you delete all Reflections, the save count and any pending invitation are cleared.

If you choose “Answer by email”, the app opens a draft in your email app; nothing is sent unless you choose to send it. Luke Crookes will read the message you send and can see the email address you send it from. Your email provider and ours will process it as ordinary email. The app does not automatically add your Reflection text, name, practice details or listening history to that message.

Accounts, payments and advertising

How and why we process information

We use information to operate the app and provide its practices, remember your choices on your device, protect the service, address technical problems and respond to messages you send us. With your permission, we also use the optional analytics described above to understand broad app use. Information may also be needed to meet legal duties or establish and protect legal rights.

Where UK or EU data-protection law applies, our legal bases depend on the purpose: providing the service you request, our legitimate interests in a secure and reliable app, meeting legal obligations, and consent where required. Optional usage analytics relies on your consent. You can withdraw it in Settings without losing access to the app. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew consent.

Service providers and international processing

Google provides Firebase services for app content and, if you allow it, usage analytics. Google processes information for these services under the applicable terms and settings. See Firebase's Privacy and Security information and Google's Privacy Policy. Information is not sold or used by us for cross-app advertising tracking.

Service providers may process information in countries outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area. Where transfer rules require safeguards, the applicable safeguards are used for those transfers.

Retention

Local app records remain on your device until you remove them using the app or device controls, subject to the backup behavior described above. Service providers retain technical and analytics information according to the applicable service settings, retention policies and legal requirements. Messages you choose to send us are separate from local app records and may be retained to respond to your request and meet applicable legal obligations.

Your choices

You can edit your local profile and Reflections inside the app. Settings provides controls to clear Activity and recent listening, saved profile details and all saved Reflection data, and to switch off Share usage analytics. You can also remove individual Favourites and Reflections. Deleting the app removes its remaining local copy; it does not request deletion of analytics already received by Google.

Your data-protection rights

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may be entitled to access information about you, correct it, request deletion or portability, object to processing, restrict its use or withdraw consent. Contact hello@tuning-in.co.uk to make a request. Because your journal and preferences are stored locally, we may not have a copy to retrieve. The app's analytics does not attach your name or account details, which may also limit our ability to identify particular analytics records.

You may raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner's Office or the data-protection authority where you live.

Children

The app is a general wellbeing resource and is not designed to collect personal information from children. We do not use analytics to create profiles of children. If you are a parent or guardian with a question about information relating to a child, please contact us using the address below.

Give Yourself a Moment offers general relaxation and reflective practices. It is not a medical service and does not provide diagnosis, treatment or emergency support.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app develops, particularly if optional accounts, subscriptions or cloud features are added. The effective date above will be updated when changes are made.
